MIL Lasagna

Homemade Lasagna

9 × 13-inch pan

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 can tomato paste

  • 1 can tomato sauce

  • 1 box oven-ready lasagna noodles

  • Handful of basil

Dairy

  • 16 oz cottage cheese

  • 2 packages sliced mozzarella or other sliced white cheese

Meat

  • 2 lb ground sirloin or lean ground beef (you can do 1 pound but we love extra protein!)

Seasonings

  • Italian seasoning… and lots of it

  • Parsley for a garnish!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Brown the ground sirloin in a large skillet. Drain excess grease.

  3. Add the basil, tomato sauce and tomato paste… make sure to make sure evything well is mixed.

  4. Stir in the cottage cheese and Italian seasoning. Simmer for a few minutes until cottage cheese is semi melting!

  5. Assemble the lasagna in a 9 × 13-inch baking dish:

    • Oven-ready lasagna noodles straight from the box

    • Meat mixture

    • Sliced mozzarella

    • Repeat the layers, ending with mozzarella on top.

  6. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and check that the noodles are tender. If needed, bake another 10–15 minutes.

  7. Broil uncovered for 3–5 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

  8. Let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing!

Important with no-boil noodles: They need enough moisture to soften while baking. Make sure every noodle is well covered with the meat/sauce mixture and don't leave exposed noodle edges!!
